The queue in the yard gets argued over on gut feeling: the haulier says an hour, the warehouse says twenty minutes. With the camera there is a number: how many trucks waited, how long the longest wait was and how many docks were idle at the same time. It is the same figure measured the same way every day, so it can be taken into a meeting, into a contract or into a slot-booking negotiation without anybody having to take anybody’s word for it.

Does this camera alert or measure?
It measures. Nothing goes off: there is a number per hour, per shift and per day. How many trucks were waiting, how long the longest wait was and how many docks stood idle. You can also ask for an alert if the queue passes a certain length, but the value of this camera is in the run of data, not in the fright.
How do you set up a counting camera?
By drawing. An alert is asked for in a sentence; a count is drawn on the picture: you mark the line the truck crosses as it enters the lane, and the zone of each dock. A line cannot be described in words, it has to be drawn, and that is why tomorrow’s number comes out the same as today’s. Asking is for finding; counting is for measuring, and they are not done the same way.
Is the number good enough to negotiate with a haulier?
Yes, because it is repeatable and it has video behind it. The same line, the same zone and the same criterion every day. You can show the arrival time, the time the truck took a dock and the wait for each vehicle. IRIS counts vehicles and times them: it does not identify the driver or match him against anything.
