Electrical cabinet open, line running, not a padlock in sight
Mid-morning. A technician has opened the electrical cabinet of the case packer and is working with a screwdriver among the breakers and the wiring. The door is wide open and his tool trolley sits behind him with the case open. The line has not stopped: cartons keep coming down the rollers alongside and the machine stack light is still lit. There is no padlock and no tag hanging on the cabinet door.

What it recognises in this scene
- technician at the cabinet
- electrical cabinet open
- cabinet door, no padlock
- machine stack light
- roller conveyor running with cartons
- tool trolley
What this camera measures
An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.
- 6 mintime with the cabinet open
- 09:14time it was opened
- 0padlocks or tags in sight
- 1people in front of the cabinet
- 2cartons on the rollers during the job
The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.
The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
a person is working at an open cabinet and no padlock or tag is visible
Then
- raise a critical alert for the maintenance supervisor
- save the video from the moment the cabinet door opened
- leave the image of the cabinet and the time for the lockout record
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if someone opens an electrical cabinet and starts working with no padlock or tag hanging on it while the line is still running.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
Lockout is what separates ordinary maintenance from an electrical accident. It gets skipped when people are in a hurry, and it almost never gets recorded. IRIS watches the cabinet door: whether it is open, whether someone is in front of it, and whether a padlock or tag is in sight. Alert as it happens, with video of the exact minute. The limit has to be said out loud: the camera sees that there is no padlock, not that the energy is isolated. That is what the procedure guarantees.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS check that the machine is de-energised?
No. IRIS sees what is visible: the open door, the person in front of it and whether a padlock or tag is hanging. Confirming that the energy is isolated is the job of the lockout procedure and its electrical checks.
What if the padlock is on but the camera cannot see it?
Then an alert goes off and a person closes it in seconds. That is why the padlock place is defined when the rule is set up: if it always goes in the same spot and that spot is visible, the alert stops firing for nothing.
Does it work as a record for an audit?
Yes, as visual evidence. Every alert stores the camera, the time and the video of the opening. It does not replace the signed lockout record: it goes with it, adding the image of the exact minute.

The school
Who sees the child who has fallen at the far end of the playground?
13 cases: 12 raise an alert when something happens and 1 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
Critical infrastructure
Who is watching a site where there is almost never anybody?
44 cases, and in every one of them IRIS raises an alert when something happens. You see each image as it is, and then with what it understands on top.
And the best part
At eleven the last person leaves. The cameras stay, and now they understand what is going on.
Nobody switches anything off on the way out. What happens in an empty building is understood right then, and nobody waits for the doors to open to find out.
Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
We reply the same working day.
