What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

The production manager hears about the stop late and badly: at the end of the shift, on a handwritten sheet, with whatever cause somebody remembers. With the camera he has the exact time the line went down, the minute it started again and the video of the seconds before. In that footage you can see the crooked pallet going into the machine. Maintenance stops arguing about what happened and starts fixing it.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS know why the line stopped?

Not on its own. IRIS sees that the parts have stopped moving and saves the video of the seconds before. In that footage you can see the pallet going in crooked. A person writes the cause, with the exact time and the images in front of them, and it takes a minute instead of half an hour. IRIS does not stop the line and does not send anybody anywhere: it alerts, and the plant decides what happens next.

Does it also work for the short stops nobody writes down?

Yes. The plant writes the threshold: a minute, thirty seconds or ten. IRIS times every stop from the first second and adds them up across the shift. Two-minute stops never make the report, and they are the ones that eat the most time over a month. Seeing them added up, each with its time, changes the conversation at the morning meeting.

Does it replace the system that already logs the stops?

No. The production system knows the line went down and at what time. What it does not have is what happened just before, and that only exists in the picture. IRIS works alongside it and adds that part: the video and the exact minute. Together, the two turn a stop code into a concrete cause somebody can fix.
