The line is running, but a gap opens every few seconds
Mid-afternoon in the bottling hall. There is no alarm: the machine tower is green and the line is still running. But on the belt the bottles do not come one after another. They come in bursts: a tight group, a long stretch of empty blue belt, another group. An operator stands beside the conveyor doing nothing, waiting for them to come back. IRIS counts the bottles crossing a fixed point and times every gap.

What IRIS understands
What it recognises in this scene
- gaps between bottles on the belt
- operator waiting beside the conveyor
- line machine, running and with no alarm
- incoming conveyor, bottles running close together
- pallet of finished packs
What this camera measures
An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.
- 17Gaps counted in fifteen minutes
- 38 sLongest gap
- 9 min 40 sGap time added up this shift
- 46Bottles counted in the last minute
- 15:12Time of the last gap
The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.
The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
more than ten seconds go by without a bottle crossing the counting point
Then
- log the gap with its time and its length in seconds
- save ten seconds of video on each side of the gap
- add up the time of every gap in the shift and show it hour by hour
The instruction that set it up«Count the bottles going past here every minute and tell me if a gap of more than ten seconds opens up.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
These stops never make it onto a report. They last fifteen or twenty seconds, nobody writes them down, and by the end of the month they have eaten more hours than the big breakdown everyone talks about. IRIS counts what crosses a fixed point, stamps every gap with its time and adds up the minutes lost across the shift. The plant manager stops arguing about whether the line is slow: he sees where and when the cycle is lost.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS know why the gap opens up?
Not on its own. IRIS sees that no product goes past for a few seconds and saves the video of that moment. In the footage you can see whether a bottle fell over, whether the machine upstream stopped feeding or whether somebody had to reach in. A person puts the cause on it; IRIS hands them the exact time and the images to find it.
Why does it alert when there is no alarm?
Because the line keeps running and cycle time is being lost anyway. There is no breakdown here: the tower is green. All you can see is that the bottles come in bursts and that somebody is waiting. A twelve-second stop, repeated a hundred times in a shift, sets off no alarm at all and still takes twenty minutes of production.
Is counting bottles the same as asking about a situation?
No, and they are not set up the same way. Asking is for finding: you write a sentence and IRIS looks for that situation. Counting is for measuring: you draw a line on the picture, because a line cannot be described in words. That is why the number is repeatable and auditable. People counting is certified by the Spanish Metrology Centre; every other count is configured the same way, by drawing.

See it for yourself
We won't just tell you. We'll show you.
It is a summary of the real screen: it plays by itself, step by step, and shows only the path of one case. The actual tool has far more than fits in here.
- You draw the line
- It counts by itself
- A number comes out

Shopping centres
What does a shopping centre see beyond the visitor count?
12 cases: 4 raise an alert when something happens and 8 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
Airports
What does an airport see before the queue forms?
14 cases: 7 raise an alert when something happens and 7 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
And the best part
Ten cameras or four thousand:not one of them goes unwatched.
The day IRIS starts, they all start: the ten in a school or the four thousand in a whole network. And it only raises its hand when the thing you asked for happens.
Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
