CAM-255

The emergency exit is behind six pallets

Mid-morning in the dispatch area. In front of the exit door there are six pallets of boxes stacked shoulder-high, two metal cages and a tool trolley. On the floor, a bundle of steel tubes lies across the yellow strip. An operator has stopped in front of it with his arms out: there is no way through. The door is open and nobody can reach it. IRIS sees that the marked zone has been occupied since first thing.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • pallets and cages in front of the exit
  • exit door standing open
  • yellow keep-clear zone
  • steel tubes on the floor
  • loaded metal cage
  • operator with no way through

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 3 h 40 minTime the zone has been blocked
  • 6Pallets counted in the zone
  • 3Trolleys and cages in the zone
  • 6People in shot
  • 07:20Time of the first item

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

an object stays inside the marked zone at the exit for more than ten minutes

Then

  1. alert the shift supervisor with the image and the time it started
  2. save the video of the moment the first item was left there
  3. time the blockage until the zone is clear again
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when something is left in the yellow zone in front of the exit for more than ten minutes.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

The route gets blocked at seven in the morning and is discovered on inspection day, or on the day somebody has to run for it. Nobody does it on purpose: a pallet is left there “for a minute” and by noon there are six. With the camera, the plant manager gets the alert while the zone is filling up, with the picture and the time. It gets cleared in ten minutes, not at the next audit.

What people usually ask

Can IRIS tell a pallet passing through from one that has been left there?

Yes, because it times things. A pallet that crosses the zone and carries on triggers nothing. The alert fires when something stays still inside the marked zone for longer than the plant has written into the rule: ten minutes, half an hour or two. The plant sets the threshold, not IRIS.

Do you have to draw the zone, or is describing it enough?

You have to draw it. A line painted on the floor cannot be described in a sentence: you trace it over the image, once, and from then on IRIS watches exactly that piece of floor. Asking is for searching; drawing a zone is for measuring it. That is why the result is the same every day.

Does it also work for maintenance access points and fire extinguishers?

Yes. Any surface that has to stay clear is marked the same way: the front of an electrical panel, a fire extinguisher, an exit or a forklift bay. IRIS does not know why that area matters; it knows the plant has marked it and alerts when somebody occupies it. Which areas matter is decided by the plant.

Demo · IRIS at work

A camera looks. IRIS understands what it sees.

An extract of the real screen, no voice-over and hands-free. Each round poses another situation. What sits behind it is a good deal bigger than what you see.

  1. You draw the line
  2. It counts by itself
  3. A number comes out

And the best part

You have paid for years to store video.Nobody has ever watched it.

Recording is not understanding. The footage is still kept in case you need it, but you no longer have to sit through it to know what happened.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
