What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
The light curtain and the interlock do their job, but they do not count how many times somebody goes in, or through where. The maintenance manager hears about it once something has happened, or not at all. With the camera every entry has a time and a video: you can see whether it was through the gate, whether the beacon was green and how long it lasted. That is what it takes to fix the habit before the scare, and to know which cell repeats it.

Does IRIS stop the robot?
No, and it should not. What stops the robot is the light curtain and the cell’s safety interlock, which are designed and tested for that. IRIS does not replace them and does not stand in for them. What it does is see that somebody has gone in, raise the alert and leave the video, including when the guard has been bypassed or the gate has been left open.
Does it know who went in?
No. IRIS does not identify anybody and does not recognise faces. It sees “there is a person inside the fence”, not “so-and-so went in”. The video shows the cell, the gate and the time. Who was on that station is something the plant knows from its own shift record, and that call is not the camera’s to make.
What if the person is allowed to be in there?
Then it is not an alert, and the rule says so. IRIS does not write the rules: which entry is valid and which is not is decided by the plant. You can ask it to alert only when the cell is not in maintenance mode, or only outside the maintenance window, or only if the gate has stayed open for more than a minute.
