A pack like this weighs hundreds of kilos. Nobody writes down the time it was steered by hand, or the time the load hung crooked, because nothing happened. With the camera those times are counted, with the hour and the video, and they stop depending on somebody telling the story. Does IRIS measure how many degrees the load is tilted?
Not as an instrument reading. The camera sees that the pack hangs crooked against the spreader beam, one corner far lower than the other, and that is what raises the alert. The exact angle comes from the lifting equipment, if it has one. What IRIS adds is the picture and the minute, so somebody can stop it before the load travels any further.
Isn’t the rule about not walking underneath enough?
The rule is there, and people still walk underneath. The difference is that now it gets counted: every time somebody steps into the path of the load it is recorded with the time and the video. That turns an argument about impressions into a list of concrete moments you can watch, count and correct. The rule does not change; what changes is knowing how well it is followed.
Does IRIS stop the crane?
No. IRIS alerts, it does not act: it does not stop a crane and it does not send anybody anywhere. The operator, the supervisor or the safety manager decides. The camera only makes sure they know while the load is still hanging, and that the video is there afterwards to explain what happened.
