CAM-237

A puddle spreading under the skid

Final assembly, mid-afternoon. A silver body moves along on the yellow skid with the bonnet up and the front end exposed. Underneath, on the floor, there is a dark puddle nearly a metre and a half across that was not there ten minutes ago. One operator has crouched down for a close look; a colleague has stopped on the other side, gloves on. IRIS sees the stain, measures how much floor it covers against the painted lines and times how fast it grows.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • puddle of fluid on the floor
  • body with the front end open
  • yellow line skid
  • operator crouching beside the puddle
  • operator stopped on the far side

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 9 minTime since the first stain
  • 1,4 mWidth measured against the floor lines
  • 2People around the puddle
  • 3Units that have passed since then
  • 15:26Time of the alert

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a patch of liquid appears on the line floor and keeps spreading

Then

  1. alert the line manager with the camera and the time of the first stain
  2. save the video from the moment the first stain appeared
  3. log which unit was on the skid that minute
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if a puddle appears on the line floor, and tell me from what minute it has been growing.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A puddle on the assembly floor is two things at once: a unit losing something, and a place where somebody is going to slip. Usually someone spots it in passing and raises it when half the aisle is already wet. With the camera, the line manager has the minute the first stain appeared and knows which unit was on the skid at that moment. That is what lets him go and find it three stations further down.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS know which fluid it is?

No. IRIS sees that there is a puddle, where it is and how it is spreading. Whether it is oil, coolant, brake fluid or condensation is settled by whoever goes over to look. A camera does not analyse a fluid. What IRIS adds is the alert right away, the exact spot and the video from the first drop, so the person going to look does not arrive late.

How does it tell a puddle from a shadow or the floor that is always wet?

By the edge and by the growth. A shadow moves with the light and does not change size; a puddle has an edge of its own and takes up more floor as time passes. The plant decides what size and what duration deserve an alert, and it can exclude the areas where there is always water, such as the exit of the wash booth.

Does it help identify which car was leaking?

Yes, indirectly. IRIS gives the exact time and the camera; which unit was on that skid at that time comes from the production system. Cross the two and you get to the specific unit even if it is already three stations further on. IRIS does not replace that system: it puts the picture and the minute alongside it, which is what was missing until now.

The real interface, step by step

You set the rule once. IRIS applies it every time.

You will see a summary of the interface, played step by step and hands-free. Each round starts with another case. The complete tool does not fit in a demo.

And the best part

Whoever is on duty already has a job.Watching forty screens does not fit into the shift.

No shift has time to spare. IRIS watches all forty at once and brings only what needs to be seen, with its camera and its time. What happens next is that person’s call.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
