  2. keep the video of the last stretch, to see since when it has not dropped
  3. repeat the alert for as long as the water keeps covering the plinths

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the site

When a pumping station floods in the small hours, nobody sees it. What warns you today is the telemetry, and if the telemetry has gone too — or the reading never arrives, or it arrives and nobody looks — the room is discovered in the morning. The camera is a second opinion that does not depend on the same line: it is not the number, it is the scene. And a scene can be understood without being an engineer, at three in the morning and over the phone.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS know whether a pump is running?

No, and it matters to say it plainly: IRIS does not know whether a pump is running. It does not read telemetry, it does not connect to the controller and it does not measure flow. What it sees is a room with water above the plinths, the pumps still, and water that is not moving where it should be moving. That is an observable sign, and it is presented as one: reason enough for somebody to check the telemetry or go down and look, never a reading of the machine's state. Confusing the two would be selling something we do not do.

What if the pump is stopped because it should be, and the room is dry?

Then there is no alert, because what fires the rule is not that the pump is stopped: it is water above the plinths, holding there. A pump at rest with a dry room is the normal state of this room almost all year, and you do not raise alerts about normal. The height at which it does become worth an alert is set by the operator of the site, on the image, not by IRIS.

Does it watch the workers when they come down to the room?

No. This camera does not identify anyone: it does not recognise faces, it does not read number plates, it does not compare against any database and it does not store who anybody is. It watches a water height and some machines. That somebody is in the room can be reported as a number — how many people are visible — if the operator wants that rule, but who each of them is does not come from here, because IRIS does not know.
