Someone is on the turbine platform with no harness

Mid-morning at the coastal wind farm. The camera looks down on the tower. Out on the external platform, next to the ladder, a person is standing with no harness and nothing holding them. Below, inside the yellow and black fence, a second person walks towards the tower door, which is open. There is no vehicle on the access track. IRIS sees two people where, at this hour, nobody should be without notice.

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

The maintenance lead finds out while it is happening, not in tomorrow's report. They know which tower it is, when the first person entered, how long the one up top has been on the platform, and they have the video to show it. That is enough to call over the radio before anyone climbs higher. And if the work was authorised, they close the alert and it is on record that it was checked, and by whom.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS know who the person on the tower is?

No. IRIS does not identify anyone and does not match faces against any list. It sees that there is a person on the platform and that they are not wearing a harness, and it raises an alert with the tower, the time and the video. Who it is comes from the work order, not from the camera.

Can a camera see at that distance whether someone is wearing a harness?

Yes, when the framing and the level of detail allow it. IRIS treats the harness and the lifeline like any other item of protective equipment: if they are not visible in the image, it does not assume they are there, and the alert is flagged as unconfirmed so a person can look. What cannot be seen is not claimed.

Does IRIS stop the turbine if it sees someone at height?

No. IRIS does not act on any machine. It alerts the person in charge with the image and the exact time; stopping the machine or sending someone up is a human decision. And the rule for what counts as an alert is written by the site, not by us.
