The fence is down and someone is coming through the gap
Late afternoon. The mesh panel that closes the substation off from the street is flattened to the ground and bent inwards, and one gate leaf has swung out. A person in a hooded top is stepping through the gap, one foot on the low wall and both hands on the frame. That is the fact: the fence has changed shape, and somebody is going through where you can now go through.

What IRIS understands
What it recognises in this scene
- person coming through the gap
- flattened mesh panel
- gate leaf standing open
- field cabinet
- power transformer
- control house
What this camera measures
An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.
- 35 sTime since the gap opened
- 1People at the fence line
- 1Mesh panels knocked down
- 1Gate leaves standing open
- 0People already inside the compound
- 20:11Time of the alert
The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.
The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
the fence shows up deformed or with a leaf standing open, or somebody crosses that line
Then
- alert the control room with the camera, the time and the point of the fence
- keep the video from before the panel was pushed out of shape
- open a fence repair job with the photo of the exact point
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if the fence or the gate stop being the way they were, and also if anyone goes through that spot.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
At an unmanned site, an open fence is not discovered: it is inherited. The mesh gets bent on a Tuesday afternoon and the technician who calls by the following Thursday finds the gap, with no way of knowing whether it has been like that for two hours or twelve days. With this camera the gap has a date, a time and a video. That is good for three things: sending someone out this same afternoon, closing the report with evidence, and knowing which point of the perimeter gets used, usually always the same one.
What people usually ask
How does IRIS know the fence was not already like that?
Because it compares this moment with how the place always looks. A fence is the most constant thing in the frame: the same panel, in the same place, every day of the year. When that line stops being where it was, that is a change and it gets reported. If the fence had been bent for three weeks, the alert went out three weeks ago, not today.
What if the wind knocks the fence down, or a lorry clips it?
The alert goes out just the same, and that is how it should be. IRIS does not say why the fence opened: it says that it is open. A gap made by the wind is exactly as urgent as any other, because what matters is that a high-voltage compound has stopped being closed and anyone can walk in, starting with a child or a dog. The cause is filled in by the person who goes and looks.
Does IRIS decide that this is a theft?
No, and it should not. IRIS writes down facts you can see in the picture: the panel is flattened, the leaf is open, there is a person going through at 20:11. It does not write intentions and it does not label anyone. Deciding what happened is the job of whoever receives the alert and, where it applies, of the police. The value of the camera is that they decide with the picture in front of them and not three days later.

What does a venue with twenty thousand people inside see?
15 cases: 11 raise an alert when something happens and 4 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.

And the best part
IRIS only sees what the camera shows.Where we do not reach, we say so.
No software fixes a lens pointing the wrong way or covered in dust. Before promising anything, we say which cameras are in a state to see what you are asking of them.
Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
We reply the same working day.
