CAM-357
Tonight the substation is in the dark
Three in the morning. The camera looks at the outdoor switchyard from the corner. The roadway and the building behind are lit, but inside the compound almost everything is off: the transformer is barely there, the bays are invisible and the red beacon on its pole is unlit. Only four light fittings are still on, all of them at the edge. On every other night, at this hour, this same frame is lit.

What IRIS understands
What it recognises in this scene
- switchyard with no lighting
- red beacon unlit
- light fitting still on by the roadway
- transformer left in shadow
- control kiosk
What this camera measures
An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.
- 4light fittings on right now
- 11light fittings on during a normal night
- 1beacons unlit
- 38 mintime since the lights went out
- 03:14time of the check
The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.
The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
the compound lighting or the beacon is not lit the way it is on other nights at the same hour
Then
- opens an alert with the camera, the time and tonight's image beside a normal night
- notifies maintenance and the site control centre
- keeps both images and the minute of the outage for the fault report
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if at night there is less light than usual inside the compound, or if the red beacon is not lit.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
The site owner finds out tonight, not on the day someone has to walk in at three in the morning and finds the yard dark. They get the camera, the time it went out and the two images: tonight and a normal night. With that, maintenance is sent out with a specific fault — that fitting, that panel — instead of a vague there is not much light.
What people usually ask
How does a camera know that lights are missing?
By comparing. IRIS stores how that same frame looks at that same hour on other nights and counts how many points of light there are now and how many there usually are. The moon, the rain or a passing car do not change that count; a blown fitting does. It is a repeatable measurement, not an impression.
Is it worth raising an alert for one dead light?
Yes, and more than it seems. An unlit beacon is an obligation left unmet, and a dark area is an accident waiting for a night visit. On top of that, the darkness blinds the other cameras on site: with no light there is no image to analyse, and every other rule stops working.
Does IRIS replace the lighting control system?
No. The control system says whether the circuit is energised; IRIS says whether the light is actually visible. They are two different things, and that is why they complement each other: a lamp can be powered and blown at the same time. Where the two disagree is exactly where the fault is.

The real interface, step by step
Everything comes in. Only what matters gets through.
This sums up what IRIS does with one alert, from the moment it appears until it is closed. The real screen holds far more; this is the main thread.
- Four cameras at once
- Each understands its own view
- The numbers climb by themselves

Stadiums and venues
What does a venue with twenty thousand people inside see?
15 cases: 11 raise an alert when something happens and 4 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
Hotels
When does a bad review get decided?
15 cases: 11 raise an alert when something happens and 4 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
And the best part
You can add more cameras;you cannot add more hours to anyone’s day.
Cameras can be multiplied; a person’s hours cannot. IRIS looks at everything coming in and leaves them the one thing no machine does better: deciding what to do.
Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
We reply the same working day.
