They are opening the valve on the line next door

Early morning at the pipe rack. Three parallel lines, each with its own handwheel. An operator in a white helmet has both hands on the red handwheel of the left-hand line and has started to turn it. A second man watches a step behind, a third waits facing them and a fourth opens the red tool box. The work order is for the middle line, the one with the green band.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • operator with hands on the handwheel
  • handwheel of the red line
  • valve on the line with the green band
  • valve on the third line
  • workmates standing by the operation

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 4people on the job
  • 3parallel lines in the frame
  • 1line with hands on it, counting from the left
  • 2 mintime with hands on the handwheel
  • 09:14time of the operation

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a person handles the handwheel of a line other than the one named in the work order

Then

  1. alert the shift supervisor and the control room
  2. save the video from the moment the hands reach the handwheel
  3. attach a picture of the line being touched and one of the line the order names
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if anyone puts hands on a valve that is not the one on the open work order.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

This industry has had accidents that began exactly like this: a crew opened a flange a few metres from the right one and pressurised gas came out. Nobody was careless; the pipe next door looks like the one on the order. IRIS looks at which piece of equipment is being touched and compares it with the one named on the work order. If they do not match, it warns before the handwheel turns. The decision still belongs to the person.

What people usually ask

How does IRIS know which valve is the right one?

The camera does not decide it. The plant states which equipment belongs to each work order and where it sits in the frame. IRIS looks at which equipment has hands on it and compares that with the reference. If it does not match, it warns. The rule is always written by the plant.

Does IRIS prevent the valve from being opened?

No. IRIS opens nothing, closes nothing and blocks no operation. It warns while it is happening and hands over the video. Who stops the job and when is a person's call. The camera provides visual confirmation of which equipment is being touched, no more and no less.

Does IRIS identify the operator who gets it wrong?

No. IRIS does not recognise faces or compare them with any list. It sees a situation: there are hands on a valve that is not the one on the order. The alert speaks about the equipment touched and the time, not about who touched it.

See it for yourself

We won't just tell you. We'll show you.

It is a summary of the real screen: it plays by itself, step by step, and shows only the path of one case. The actual tool has far more than fits in here.

  1. You draw the line
  2. It counts by itself
  3. A number comes out

And the best part

A wall of monitors is impressive.Nobody can read forty tiles at once.

The more tiles there are, the less each one gets looked at. IRIS watches all four thousand cameras at once and points at a single one: the one that needs someone right now.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
