CAM-336

Someone has been standing at the fence for four minutes

Mid-afternoon at a valve station on the coast. A grey car is stopped outside, on the dirt track, where nobody stops. A few metres away a hooded person stands against the mesh, hands on the wire, holding a tool. On the other side of the gate a worker in a hi-vis vest walks along the road. IRIS sees somebody staying put at the fence and a vehicle stopped outside, and it times both.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • person standing against the mesh
  • car stopped on the dirt track
  • fence topped with razor wire
  • site gate, closed
  • worker inside the compound
  • hazard sign on the fence

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 17:24time the person stopped
  • 04:12time spent standing at the fence
  • 1people stopped outside
  • 1vehicles stopped outside
  • 3times the same car has driven past today

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a person or a vehicle stays beside the fence for longer than the time the site sets

Then

  1. alert the security centre with the camera, the time and the image
  2. save the video from the moment the clock started running
  3. count how many people and vehicles are stopped outside
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if somebody stays at the fence for more than two minutes, or if a vehicle stops on the perimeter track.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A remote station has nobody in front of it. On that track a car driving past is normal; a car that stops, and somebody who stays put against the fence, is not. That difference — passing through or staying — is the whole point. IRIS times how long the person stays and alerts the control centre with the image, so somebody can call or drive out while it is happening, instead of finding a hole in the fence the next morning.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS identify the person at the fence?

No. IRIS does not recognise faces and does not compare them against any database. It detects a situation: somebody staying beside the fence for longer than the site allows. It alerts with the camera, the time and the video. Who that person is, and what happens next, is decided by people and, where it applies, by the authorities.

Won’t it go off every time somebody walks past?

No, because it does not trigger on passing by: it triggers on staying. The rule is written with a time — two minutes, five — and with the exact area of the frame. Somebody walking through sets off nothing. A car that stops on a track where nobody stops does. That threshold is set by the site, not by the camera.

Does it work at night or in fog?

It depends on the camera, not on IRIS. With a camera that sees at night — infrared or thermal — the detection keeps working. If the optics cannot see, neither can IRIS. That is why perimeters combine views: one covering the track and one tight on the fence, and whichever works at that hour is the one that counts.

The real interface, step by step

You set the rule once. IRIS applies it every time.

You will see a summary of the interface, played step by step and hands-free. Each round starts with another case. The complete tool does not fit in a demo.

And the best part

With two screens you watch. With twenty you look without seeing.

It is nobody’s fault: it happens to everyone. IRIS watches all twenty at once and only interrupts when something deserves a person’s attention.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
