What changes for whoever answers for the plant
An emergency shower gets used once every many years, and on that day it gets used at a run, with the eyes shut. If you have to go round two pallets to reach it, you lose exactly the seconds that matter. Same story with the hydrant. Nobody leaves the drums there on purpose: the morning shift leaves them meaning to move them later. IRIS reports it the same day, with a photo of the spot, and the material goes before anyone needs the shower.

How does the camera know where the access has to stay clear?
Because the area is drawn once on the image. You trace the yellow hatching on the floor, or the radius the site sets, and from then on IRIS reports any item that stays inside it. There is no need to describe it in a sentence: an area gets drawn. And what is drawn can be counted and audited afterwards.
Does it report the moment somebody puts something down?
Only if it stays. The rule carries a time: a pallet passing through while a load comes off is not the same as a pallet still sitting there three hours later. That margin is set by the site. What IRIS adds is that the clock starts on its own, and does not depend on somebody remembering to look.
Does it replace the safety inspection round?
No. The round checks things a camera cannot see: whether the shower delivers flow, whether the eyewash is clean, whether the extinguisher holds pressure. IRIS covers what happens between one round and the next, which is when the access gets taken up. It sits alongside the inspection programme, not in place of it.
