He climbed into the vessel and nobody is outside
Mid-morning. The manway of the horizontal vessel is open, its cover swung up and resting back. An operator in a white helmet, wearing a harness, is in up to the waist, holding the handle as he climbs down inside. There is nobody around: not on the grating walkway to the right, not beside the vessel. No tripod and no lifeline are rigged at the opening either.

What IRIS understands
What it recognises in this scene
- operator climbing in through the manway
- open manway
- cover swung open
- horizontal vessel
- empty walkway beside the vessel
What this camera measures
An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.
- 1people who went in through the manway
- 0people outside by the opening
- 3 mintime since the descent began
- 11 mintime the manway has been open
- 08:35time of entry
The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.
The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
a person enters through a manway and nobody remains outside by the opening
Then
- alert the control room and the entry permit holder
- save the video from the moment the manway was opened
- log the entry time and the people counted inside and outside
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if anyone enters through a manway and nobody is left outside keeping watch.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
Inside a vessel, the person who stays outside is the safety equipment. If nobody is there, nobody raises the alarm. Here the camera counts the people who went in and the people left outside, and warns when the second number is zero. The alert arrives while the worker is still climbing down, with the time and the video of the entry. In a half-empty facility that is the difference between minutes and hours.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS measure the oxygen inside the vessel?
No. A camera does not measure atmospheres. Oxygen and gases are measured by a gas monitor before entry and during the work. IRIS watches the opening: who goes in, when, and whether anyone stays outside. Both are needed and neither replaces the other.
Does IRIS see what happens inside the vessel?
Not unless there is a camera inside. This camera watches the manway and its surroundings. That is why it counts entries and exits: if one person went in and has not come out, the number says so without needing to see the inside.
Does IRIS know who went in?
No. IRIS does not recognise faces or compare them with any list. It detects situations: a person has climbed in through the opening and nobody is left outside. Who that person is comes from the entry permit, not from the camera.

A new case each time. Always the same screen.
It plays by itself and shows one case from start to finish. It is a summary: the real screen has far more functions than fit in this box.

Who sees the sales that never reach the till?
10 cases: 4 raise an alert when something happens and 6 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.

Who is watching when the load swings over somebody?
11 cases: 9 raise an alert when something happens and 2 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
And the best part
Video tells you what happened. An alert reaches you while it is happening.
Reviewing the recording helps you explain. Hearing about it at the time helps you get there. Two different things, and until now you only had the first.
Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
