What changes for whoever answers for the site
A machine operator cannot see what is behind him or right beside his wheel. A slewing loader has a huge blind spot, and the person crossing on foot does not think about it, because he does it twice a day and nothing has ever happened. It is the same case as the forklift on a building site and it is solved the same way: somebody has to find out while the person is walking in, not afterwards. IRIS alerts the supervisor and the nearest cab the moment someone steps into the manoeuvring area with a machine running. It brakes nothing, touches no machine and promises nothing: it shortens the stretch of time in which nobody knows that person is there.

What if the worker has to go in because it is his job?
Then it is not an incident, and the rule has to say so. The area, the hours and who may set foot in it are defined by the plant, not by IRIS. You can leave the yard open to pedestrians during the midday stop and close it while a machine is running; you can ask for it to fire only when the machine is actually moving. The rule is written by the operator of the site: IRIS applies the one it has been given, and that is what keeps the alert meaningful.
Does IRIS know whether the worker is wearing a high-vis vest?
That is a different camera and a different rule, not this one. What matters here is that there is a person on foot where machines are manoeuvring, and that is a problem whether or not he is wearing a vest. Cramming both things into one alert is what makes an alert useless: whoever gets it no longer knows what he is responding to.
Does IRIS recognise who the worker walking in is?
No. IRIS does not identify anyone: it does not recognise faces and it does not read number plates. It detects that there is a person and where that person is, not who it is. To warn that somebody is on foot among the machines, that is all you need, and nothing else is stored.
