CAM-374

Two workers on the casting floor with no thermal clothing

Night shift on the casting floor. To the left, a ladle with the bath uncovered; to the right, a red-hot slab moving along the roller table. There are four people on the floor. Two are in aluminised suits, helmets and lowered face shields. The other two are not: one wears a hi-vis vest over street clothes, the other has neither shield nor thermal clothing, only a helmet and gloves.

What IRIS understands

What it recognises in this scene

  • person with no shield and no thermal clothing
  • person in a vest, no thermal clothing
  • worker in aluminised suit with face shield
  • second worker in full gear, by the table
  • ladle with the bath uncovered
  • red-hot slab on the roller table

What this camera measures

An alert says something is happening. The reading says how much.

  • 4People in shot
  • 2People in full thermal gear
  • 2People without thermal clothing
  • 2 min 30 sTime on the floor without gear
  • 20:47Time of the alert

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client's measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

somebody is on the casting floor without an aluminised suit or without a face shield

Then

  1. alert the bay supervisor with the camera, the time and the video
  2. save the video from the moment the person stepped onto the floor
  3. count how many people are in shot and how many are wearing full gear
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if somebody steps onto the casting floor without an aluminised suit or without the face shield down.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

On a casting floor, gear is not paperwork: it is the only thing between a splash and a serious burn. The check happens verbally at the start of the shift, and what happens afterwards nobody watches. A camera watches the whole floor, the whole shift, and alerts while the person is still there. The supervisor gets the camera, the time and the video, and goes.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS know who the person without gear is?

No, and it cannot. IRIS does not recognise faces and does not compare them with any list. What it sees is a situation: there is a person on the casting floor without an aluminised suit. It does not know whether they are staff, maintenance or a visitor, and that part is filled in by whoever goes to look. The alert says what is happening and where, not who.

Does it tell an aluminised suit from a hi-vis vest?

Yes, they are very different garments and they look different in an image: one covers the whole body and reflects light in another way. Even so, there are moments when it cannot be decided: somebody with their back turned at the far end, hidden behind a machine, or backlit by the pour. When the camera cannot see it clearly it does not make anything up; the plant’s rule decides what to do in those cases.

And if somebody lifts the shield for a second?

It depends on what the rule says, and the plant writes the rule. It can ask for an alert from the first second, or only if the situation lasts a while; it can cover the whole floor or only the stretch beside the ladle. IRIS does not decide what deserves an alert: it applies what has been written for it and hands over the camera, the time and the video so it can be checked.

Simulation · how IRIS works

This isn’t a video. It’s a slice of the real screen.

A summary of the real interface, played hands-free. You see one case from start to finish; what you do not see are the other screens, and there are many.

  1. The rule gets built
  2. It goes to every camera
  3. Published, it watches alone
  4. And then it fires

And the best part

You decide once what matters to you.It stops depending on who happens to be on shift.

You say it in your own words and it stays written down. Nobody has to remember anything at the start of a shift: what you decided is already in place, and still there tomorrow.

Tell us your problem and we will say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

We reply the same working day.
