Someone is walking under the hanging load

Midday on the quay. A mobile crane has a container hanging from the spreader, clear of the ground, and hasn’t set it down yet. Across the apron, a worker in hard hat and orange vest walks toward the load and steps into the strip right underneath it. Beside them waits the flatbed that’s due to take it. IRIS sees the load in the air and the person moving underneath, and alerts while the container is still hanging.

What IRIS understands

What it recognizes in this scene

  • worker stepping under the load
  • container hanging from the spreader
  • mobile crane lifting
  • flatbed waiting for the load
  • row of stacked containers

What this camera measures

An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.

  • 1People under the load
  • 8 sTime inside the danger strip
  • 14Crane moves counted today
  • 2People in frame
  • 09:05Time of the alert

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a person enters the area under a suspended load or its travel path

Then

  1. alert the crane driver and the lift supervisor with the camera and the time
  2. save the video from the moment the load left the ground
  3. leave the alert in the lift report with the image attached
The instruction that set it up«Tell me the moment anyone steps under a hanging load or into the path it is going to travel.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the terminal

If that load lets go, there’s no second chance. Today the only warning available is somebody shouting in time, and on a windy quay full of engines nobody hears a thing. What the camera changes is the timing: the alert arrives while the container is in the air, not once it’s on the ground. And afterward there’s the video, which in an investigation is worth more than five different accounts of what happened.

What people usually ask

Can IRIS stop the crane?

No. IRIS doesn’t command any equipment: it doesn’t stop a crane, doesn’t release a brake and doesn’t lock a control. It alerts whoever the port has decided, with the camera, the minute and the video. Stopping the lift is always the crane driver’s or the lift supervisor’s decision. What the camera does is make sure that person knows while the load is still in the air.

How is the area under the load marked out?

It’s drawn on the camera image. Somebody from the port traces the crane’s working area and the margin around it, and that shape is the rule. Nothing needs painting on the ground and no sensor needs installing. If the crane moves or the lift happens at another point on the quay, the area is redrawn on the camera and the rule applies again.

Does this work at night or in bad weather?

It depends on the camera, not on IRIS. With a camera that sees well at night, the detection works at night. In thick fog, heavy rain or with a floodlight glaring straight into the lens, a camera sees worse, and that has to be said. Where the operation never stops, several angles are combined and the right equipment is chosen; even so, there are conditions in which the image isn’t enough.

The real interface, step by step

A new case each time. Always the same screen.

It plays by itself and shows one case from start to finish. It’s a summary: the real screen has far more functions than fit in this box.

  1. Checks the whole system
  2. Flags what is failing
  3. Puts it on one screen

And the best part

Video tells you what happened. An alert reaches you while it’s happening.

Reviewing the recording helps you explain. Hearing about it at the time helps you get there. Two different things, and until now you only had the first.

Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

A person answers, the same working day.
