What changes

What changes for whoever runs the parking lot

Turnover is what sets the price of a space. If the half-hour area is holding three-hour cars, that space yields less than the parking lot thinks, and the figure appears nowhere. By counting how many different vehicles pass through each space and how long each one stays, the manager walks into the meeting with a repeatable number, space by space and hour by hour, instead of an impression.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS read the plate to know how long the car has been there?

No. IRIS doesn’t read plates in a parking lot. It watches the space, not the car: each space has a zone drawn over it, and the clock starts when something occupies it and stops when it leaves. That’s why the figure is the same whoever looks at it, and why you don’t need to know whose vehicle it’s to measure turnover.

Why is this drawn instead of asked for in a sentence?

Because asking is for finding and counting is for measuring, and they aren’t the same job. A sentence finds a car in a video. A figure that will set the price of a space has to come out of the same place every time, and that place is a zone drawn on the image. A line can’t be described in a sentence: it has to be drawn, and that’s what makes the number repeatable.

Is this an alarm?

No. This camera measures, it doesn’t warn. It returns how long each space has been occupied, how many different vehicles use it in a day and at what times. If the parking lot also wants an alert when the limit is passed, that’s set up separately. The value of this camera is the repeatable figure you put on the table in a meeting, not the alert.
