The loading dock is a classic way out: it’s the place where a large gate opens, a vehicle from outside comes in and there are boxes on the ground. The rule is simple, and the facility writes it: while the maneuver lasts, nobody may be on foot in that area except the unloading crew. Today that’s enforced by watching, and whoever is watching is also counting pallets, signing the packing slip and talking to the driver. With IRIS the area watches itself for the whole maneuver, alerts while the gate is still open and logs the time of every entry and exit. No drama: just an area that’s watched for the twenty minutes that matter.

How does IRIS know who is allowed in the area during the maneuver?
It doesn’t know, and it doesn’t need to. What IRIS watches is a place and a stretch of time: the maneuvering area is painted on the floor and drawn on the image as well, and while a truck is unloading the facility decides who may be in it on foot. IRIS sees that there’s a person on foot inside that zone during those minutes, and says so with the camera, the time and the video. Who that person is appears nowhere, because the camera does not know: that is settled by whoever goes to look.
What if the facility wants the area completely clear?
Then that’s how it is set, and that’s that. The facility writes the rule: you can ask for nobody on foot inside the area during the maneuver, or no more than two people, or nobody crossing the yellow line while the forklift is moving, or only one of those. You also decide the hours it applies, because a loading dock doesn’t work the same at seven in the morning as it does mid-afternoon. We bring no factory-set rule of our own.
Does this leave a record of who was on the bay?
No. IRIS identifies nobody and can’t be used to sanction a particular person. What remains is the time someone entered the area and the time they left, together with the video of those minutes: a situation, not a person. No faces are recognized, no plates are read, there’s no database of who is who and no record is kept on anyone. If the facility needs to know who was there, it knows from its own duty records, which is where that information belongs.
