Mid-afternoon in the packing area. Boxes come down the rollers one after another. At the fork, one box doesn’t carry straight on to the inspection table: it takes the bypass and heads straight for the taping station, where an operator is already closing another one. The inspection table sits empty, its rollers still. The line signal tower stays green: as far as the system is concerned, nothing happened. IRIS follows each box and sees which way it went.

What changes for whoever answers for the plant
On Tuesday a customer calls, and somebody has to know which boxes went past the inspection table and which didn’t. Today there’s no way: a box that takes the diversion leaves no trace anywhere, and the system counts it as good because it reached the end. With the camera, the quality manager has the list of the ones that took the diversion, the time of each and the video of the route. That turns a hunch into data with an image behind it.

Can IRIS follow the same box along the line?
Yes, as long as the box stays within view of the cameras on that stretch. IRIS doesn’t read what’s inside: it follows the object from one shot to the next and sees which branch it took. That tells it which boxes entered the station and which didn’t, and it keeps the video of every route. Where the line turns or something blocks the view, the same point is covered by a second camera from another angle.
Does this count as a record for an audit?
It counts as evidence in pictures, with the exact time. The official record stays with the plant quality system: IRIS doesn’t replace it, it works alongside and adds the video and the minute for every box. When the record says one thing and the footage says another, the footage shows what actually happened.
Does IRIS stop the line when a box skips the station?
No. IRIS alerts, it doesn’t act: it doesn’t stop a conveyor or divert anything. It sends the alert with the camera, the time and the picture to whoever the plant has decided. Stopping, holding the pallet or letting it through is a person’s call. And what counts as an alert is also written by the plant, not by the camera.
