CAM-470

A car reaches the crossing just as someone is on it

Six in the evening on level -1. Someone walks across the crossing painted on the floor, heading for the elevators. A blue car comes down the lane with its headlights on, its front wheels already over the first white stripes. Between them stands a wide pillar that hides the view until the last few feet. All around, full spaces and a wet floor full of reflections. IRIS sees the person inside the painted area and sees the car entering the same lane.

What IRIS understands

What it recognizes in this scene

  • person walking across the crossing
  • car entering the crossing with its headlights on
  • crossing painted on the floor
  • pillar that blocks the view
  • elevator doors

What this camera measures

An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.

  • 1People on the crossing
  • 1Vehicles in the lane
  • 4 sTime inside the crossing
  • 37Crossings counted in the last hour
  • 18:12Time

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

a vehicle enters the crossing with a person on it

Then

  1. alert the control desk with the camera, the level and the time
  2. save the video from ten seconds before the approach
  3. add the crossing to the count of close approaches at that corner
The instruction that set it up«Alert me when a car enters the crossing while somebody is walking across it.»

What changes

What changes for whoever runs the parking lot

In a basement nobody sees anything until it’s right on top of them: low ceiling, pillars every few feet, and everyone driving in search of spaces, not people. The manager shouldn’t find out about a near miss three days later through a claim. With the camera the alert arrives while it’s happening, with the video of the crossing, and over time shows which corner collects the near misses. That’s what tells you where to put a mirror, where to slow traffic and which crossing to repaint.

What people usually ask

Can IRIS stop the car?

No. IRIS doesn’t act on anything: it doesn’t brake a vehicle, close a barrier or set off a siren on its own. It alerts the control desk while it’s happening and saves the video of the crossing. What happens next — switching on a light, sending someone down, changing the signs — is decided by a person at the parking lot.

Does IRIS know who is driving or who the pedestrian is?

No. IRIS does not identify anyone and does not recognize faces. It works with areas drawn on the image: it sees that there’s a person inside the crossing and a vehicle entering it. That is a situation, not an identity. In this parking lot it doesn’t read license plates either: it follows the car by its image inside the frame and nothing more.

Is it any use on such a dark level?

Yes, and that’s exactly where it is needed most. The crossing is painted and the watched area is drawn over it once: from then on IRIS always looks at the same patch of floor, with whatever light there is. Where the light is very poor, a low-light camera is fitted. What IRIS doesn’t do is guess what’s happening outside the frame.

The real interface, step by step

This isn’t a video. It’s a slice of the real screen.

A summary of the real interface, played hands-free. You see one case from start to finish; what you don’t see are the other screens, and there are many.

And the best part

Whoever is on duty already has a job.Watching forty screens doesn’t fit into the shift.

No shift has time to spare. IRIS watches all forty at once and brings only what needs to be seen, with its camera and its time. What happens next is that person’s call.

Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

A person answers, the same working day.
