A car stopped outside a space on a floor that should be empty

Almost four in the morning on level -3. Every space in frame is empty. A gray car is stopped in the aisle, in front of the elevators, without pulling into any space and with its rear lights on. A person is standing by the driver’s door. The metal shutter at the back is down. IRIS doesn’t say what’s going on: it says there’s a vehicle stopped outside a space and activity at an hour when the level should be empty.

What IRIS understands

What it recognizes in this scene

  • car stopped outside a space
  • person by the driver’s door
  • empty spaces on the level
  • lifts and the metal shutter closed
  • crossing outside the elevator lobby

What this camera measures

An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.

  • 26 minTime stopped outside a space
  • 1People on the level
  • 1Vehicles on the level
  • 14Free spaces in frame
  • 03:41Time

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

there is a vehicle stopped outside a space or a person on the level outside opening hours

Then

  1. alert the control desk with the level, the camera and the time
  2. save the video from the moment the vehicle stopped
  3. time how long it stays there and alert again if it passes the limit
The instruction that set it up«Alert me if there is anyone or any car stopped on the closed levels outside opening hours.»

What changes

What changes for whoever runs the parking lot

Four in the morning on level -3 and nobody is watching: the parking lot is closed and the guard is doing his round out on the street. The next morning nobody knows what happened down there. With IRIS the manager gets the alert while it’s happening, with the level, the time and the video, and decides whether it’s normal — a customer coming back late for their car — or whether it’s worth going to look. The same rule, with a much longer clock, flags the cars that haven’t moved for days: spaces that aren’t turning over and stays nobody has closed.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS say that somebody is up to no good?

No, and it must not. IRIS describes facts: there’s a vehicle stopped outside a space and there’s a person on a level at an hour when there’s usually nobody. Intentions aren’t visible to a camera. Whoever watches the video decides whether that’s normal and what to do next. IRIS does not judge and does not identify anyone.

How does IRIS know a car hasn’t moved for days?

By watching the space, not the car. IRIS sees that the same-looking vehicle is in that space hour after hour and times how long it’s been there. Here it doesn’t read license plates and doesn’t follow any car around the city: it only knows that this patch of floor has been occupied far longer than expected, and since what day. Cross-checking that against the paid stay is the parking lot system’s job.

Does it work with the level almost in the dark?

Yes, with the right camera. Where the light drops a lot a low-light camera is fitted, and even then it’s worth reviewing the level’s lighting: if a video can’t be seen, it’s no use as evidence either. IRIS also raises an alert when an area that used to be lit stops being lit, which is a cheap warning that saves trouble.

Demo · IRIS at work

You set the rule once. IRIS applies it every time.

You will see a summary of the interface, played step by step and hands-free. Each round starts with another case. The complete tool doesn’t fit in a demo.

And the best part

If the camera doesn’t show it,IRIS doesn’t see it. We say so up front, not afterward.

No camera sees through a wall or in complete darkness. We’d rather show you where the limit is, and place what you have well, than promise something that never appears on screen.

Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

A person answers, the same working day.
