The pedestrian jumps clear at the crossing
Mid-morning at the aisle 4 crossing. A forklift comes out with a tall pallet of shrink-wrapped boxes: the load blocks the driver’s view straight ahead. Right beside the pallet, a worker in a safety vest jumps clear with both arms out. The yellow painted walkway is six feet away. IRIS sees a person and a forklift inside the same drawn crossing zone and raises the alert while it’s happening.

What this camera measures
An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.
- 10:24Time of the alert
- 3People in frame
- 1Forklifts in the crossing
- 46Pedestrians counted at the crossing today
- 4Alerts at this crossing this week
The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.
The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
a person and a forklift are inside the drawn crossing zone at the same time
Then
- alert the shift supervisor with the camera, the aisle and the time
- save the video of the fifteen seconds before and after
- add the alert to this crossing’s tally for the weekly review
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when a person and a forklift are in the aisle 4 crossing at the same time, and save me the video.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
A near miss leaves no paperwork. Nobody writes it down because nothing happened, and the same crossing repeats it twenty times a month until the day it goes wrong. With the camera, the safety manager has the list of the places where people jump clear, with time and video. That’s where you really decide whether you need a mirror, a barrier or a change of traffic direction. You fix the place, not the person.
What people usually ask
How does IRIS know it was a near miss?
Because a person and a forklift entered the same zone drawn over the image at the same time. That zone is traced by the warehouse over the crossing: it isn’t a sentence, it’s an outline. IRIS doesn’t measure intent and doesn’t calculate risk; it sees two things that shouldn’t coincide there and raises the alert. Whether it was a scare or a normal maneuver is answered by the video, saved with the alert.
Does it identify the driver or read the forklift number?
It does neither. IRIS does not read forklift plates and does not recognize faces: it works with zones drawn over the image. It sees “a forklift and a person in the same crossing,” not “truck seven, driven by so-and-so.” If the warehouse wants to know who was on it, it cross-checks the video with its own shift sheet. The camera supplies the place, the time and the picture; the name doesn’t come from here.
Can it stop the forklift?
No. IRIS alerts, it doesn’t drive and it doesn’t brake: it sends no signal to the vehicle. The alert reaches a person with the camera, the time and the video, and that person decides what happens. What does change is that dangerous crossings stop being a feeling the morning shift has and become a list of places, times and counts — which is what you can actually act on.

When does a bad review get decided?
15 cases: 11 raise an alert when something happens and 4 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.

Who is watching a whole quay at three in the morning?
14 cases: 13 raise an alert when something happens and one only measures. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
And the best part
Nobody was hired to stare at a screen. They were hired to know what to do.
Watching is what a machine does best; deciding is what only a person does. IRIS watches all four thousand at once and hands over only what calls for a decision.
Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
A person answers, the same working day.
