Eleven thirty in the morning, and the operator lying across the belt to clear it has the stop button two steps away, untouched. To the site manager this arrives as a dispatch delay, never as what it is. With the camera he has the time, the video of that stretch and the figure for how many times a week it happens and always on which curve. With that you decide whether it takes training, a new guard or a stop button closer to hand. And the safety report stops depending on somebody remembering to mention it.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS stop the conveyor when it sees hands inside?

No. IRIS alerts and saves the video; stopping the conveyor is done by a person or by the machine’s own system. The camera doesn’t command any equipment. Its job is to get the alert out while it’s happening, with the picture of that stretch and the exact minute, so whoever has the button can decide.

How does it tell a jammed conveyor from one that’s simply full?

Because it looks at movement, not at quantity. A full conveyor that keeps moving isn’t a jam. IRIS raises the alert when packages on that stretch have been still for longer than the site allows. That threshold is set by the site, not by the camera, and it changes when the operation changes.

Does it record who the operator was?

No. IRIS does not recognize faces and does not match them against any list. It sees “somebody has put their arms into the conveyor,” not who that somebody is. The video is available to whoever is authorized to watch it, and working out who was on that station is a job for the shift roster, not for the camera.
