Seven fifteen on a wet morning: the operator on shift is at the far end of the works and the upstream level hasn’t reached the float yet. A blinded screen cuts the inflow, raises the level and ends in a spill to the street or the river. It’s one of the known causes of overflow, along with breakages, overloads and power failures. Level tells you when it’s already high; the image tells you earlier, while the screen is blinding over and the rake can’t keep up.
