CAM-428
The fence has been cut and material is leaving through it
Mid-afternoon in the scrap yard. At a point in the fence where there’s no gate, the mesh has been cut and bent back. Someone is coming out through that gap, crouching; another walks with a coil of cable toward a van parked outside the site, rear doors open and more coils inside. At the back, the copper bay and the forklift carry on working. IRIS sees the perimeter crossed where there’s no way through, and material leaving on a route that doesn’t exist.

What IRIS understands
What it recognizes in this scene
- fence cut open, with no authorized opening
- person crossing through the gap
- material leaving the yard
- vehicle parked outside the fence
- copper bay
What this camera measures
An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.
- 2people in the area
- 6 mintime since the first crossing
- 4items carried out
- 1vehicles outside the fence
- 14:26time of the alert
The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.
The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
the fence is crossed at a point with no authorized opening and material leaves toward a vehicle parked outside the site
Then
- alert security with the camera and the point on the fence
- save the video from the first crossing of the fence
- flag that stretch of fence for inspection and repair
The instruction that set it up«Alert me if anyone crosses the fence at a point that is not a gate, or if material leaves the yard by a route that is not the exit.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
The copper leaves and nobody finds out until the inventory count, weeks later, when there’s no footage left to look at. An alert while it’s happening gives the guard the camera and the exact point of the fence, and gives the plant a video with the time on it. It also shows where the fence has to be repaired, which is what prevents the second time. IRIS does not say who anyone is: it says what happened, where, and at what time.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS say that this is a theft?
No. IRIS describes what can be seen: the fence crossed at a point with no opening, material leaving the yard and a vehicle parked outside. It does not judge anyone’s intention and it does not identify anyone. What counts as theft is decided by a person, and then by whoever has to decide it, looking at the video IRIS has saved with the camera and the time.
Does someone have to be watching the monitor?
No. The rule is written once and the camera watches on its own, day, night and weekends. When the rule is met, the alert arrives with the camera, the time and the video. A scrap yard has hundreds of yards of fence and dozens of cameras: nobody can watch them all at once on a screen, and that’s why the rule does the watching.
Does it fire every time someone walks near the fence?
No, not if the rule is written well. You can ask it to alert only when the crossing happens on a stretch with no gate, or only when there’s also a vehicle parked outside. What counts as an alert is decided by the plant: IRIS doesn’t write the rule, it applies it. A rule that’s too broad produces alerts nobody looks at, and that’s worse than having none.

Everything comes in. Only what matters gets through.
This sums up what IRIS does with one alert, from the moment it appears until it’s closed. The real screen holds far more; this is the main thread.

Next step
The city
Who watches the cameras of a whole city?
23 cases: 18 raise an alert when something happens and 5 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
The highway
Who watches an entire highway?
10 cases: 8 raise an alert when something happens and 2 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
And the best part
If the camera doesn’t show it,IRIS doesn’t see it. We say so up front, not afterward.
No camera sees through a wall or in complete darkness. We’d rather show you where the limit is, and place what you have well, than promise something that never appears on screen.
Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
A person answers, the same working day.
