The belt is overflowing and material is falling to the ground

Mid-afternoon at the aggregates plant. The belt feeding the crusher is loaded beyond its width, and at the change of run the material spills over the side and pours down. Below, a heap of stone has built up that already reaches the height of the structure. Two workers in safety vests are standing near the heap. IRIS sees material outside the belt and starts timing from the moment it began to fall.

What IRIS understands

What it recognizes in this scene

  • material falling off the belt
  • heap built up under the belt
  • belt loaded beyond its width
  • worker under the belt
  • second worker beside the heap

What this camera measures

An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.

  • 9 minTime material has been falling
  • 2People under the belt
  • 1,2 mHeight of the heap against the column
  • 4Spills counted at this point this week
  • 14:05Time of the first material outside

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

material falls outside the belt for more than a minute

Then

  1. alert the plant supervisor with the belt, the point and the time
  2. save the video from the first material to spill over
  3. count the people under the belt at that moment
The instruction that set it up«Tell me when material falls off the belt at the transfer point, and how long it has been falling.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

Five thirty, and the plant supervisor hasn’t walked past that belt since breakfast. By the time somebody tells him, the heap already reaches the structure, and clearing it means two people with shovels and half a shift with the belt stopped. With the alert as it happens he knows which belt, which point and the minute material started falling, and he acts before the heap reaches the rollers. And there’s a count: how many times that same point spills in a month. A point that spills every week isn’t bad luck, it’s something to fix.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS know why the belt is overflowing?

Not on its own. The camera sees that material is spilling, where it spills and from what minute. If the cause is in front of the lens — a collapsed roller, a torn skirt, a jam at the transfer — it shows on the video. If it’s inside the machine, it doesn’t. IRIS provides the image and the time; the diagnosis is made by maintenance.

Can you count how many spills a point has?

Yes. Every alert is stored with its belt, its point and its time, so at the end of the month there’s a number for each transfer point. That turns a corridor complaint into data you can take to a meeting and sort worst first. Counting is what a camera does best, and here it’s what pays for the repair.

Does the belt have to be stopped for IRIS to see it?

No. The camera watches the belt while it runs and sees material falling off as it happens. Nor does IRIS stop anything: it sends the alert with the image, and whether to cut the feed, stop the belt or wait for the shift change is decided by a person at the plant.

A different case every time

We won’t just tell you. We’ll show you.

It’s a summary of the real screen: it plays by itself, step by step, and shows only the path of one case. The actual tool has far more than fits in here.

And the best part

You can’t describe a line with a sentence. You have to draw it on the image.

Asking is for finding. Counting is for measuring. And they aren’t done the same way. That’s why the number comes out the same every day, and why people counting is approved by the Centro Español de Metrología — Spain’s national metrology institute. It’s a Spanish approval and it isn’t equivalent to any U.S. certification.

Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
