Split capsules and loose powder among the good ones

Inspection belt for blue and white capsules. On the left, the capsule filler discharges onto the belt under its ring light, and beside it a bin holds the bulk capsules. On the belt, among the whole capsules, several are split open, with brown powder spilled around them. An operator in gown, hairnet, mask and gloves is watching the belt from the right-hand side. The defective ones keep moving toward the outfeed.

What IRIS understands

What it recognizes in this scene

  • split and open capsules
  • powder spilled on the belt
  • inspection belt
  • capsule filling machine
  • bin of bulk capsules
  • operator watching the belt

What this camera measures

An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.

  • 7defective capsules counted
  • 3powder patches on the belt
  • 62capsules on the watched stretch
  • 4 mintime since the first one
  • 1people on the line

The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.

The rule

You decide once. IRIS applies it always.

If

open or broken capsules, or powder spilled among them, appear on the inspection belt

Then

  1. alerts the line operator and the quality lead
  2. saves the video of the belt stretch where they went past
  3. logs the time and how many units with a visible defect were counted
The instruction that set it up«Alert me when split or broken capsules go past on the belt, or powder spilled around them.»

What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

A broken capsule isn’t just one unit less: the powder it releases dirties the belt and travels with the next ones. When several show up in a row, there’s almost always something to fix upstream, in the machine. IRIS alerts while it’s happening, with the picture of the stretch and the time, so the team goes to look at the machine there and then, not at the end of the shift with half an hour of product to review.

What people usually ask

Can IRIS tell a split capsule from a whole one?

Yes, when the defect is visible: a capsule that’s open, split, crushed or surrounded by powder. A defect you can’t see, such as weight or what’s inside, isn’t something a camera reads: that’s the scale and the laboratory. IRIS alerts on what’s visible and keeps the image and the time.

Does IRIS detect whether the capsule dose is correct?

No. The camera looks at the shape, the color and the condition of the capsule, not at what’s inside it. The content is checked by weighing and by analysis, and no image replaces that check. What IRIS adds is the image, the time and the count of units with a visible defect that went past.

Does IRIS replace the line quality control?

No. IRIS watches the same stretch without a break and alerts as it happens, but what counts as a reject is written by the plant in its own rules, and the decision on the batch still belongs to quality. IRIS works alongside those systems and adds what they lack: the image and the exact minute.

The real interface, step by step

This isn’t a video. It’s a slice of the real screen.

A summary of the real interface, played hands-free. You see one case from start to finish; what you don’t see are the other screens, and there are many.

  1. The hour, as a grid
  2. You look where it’s dark
  3. You jump to that minute

And the best part

Whoever is on duty already has a job.Watching forty screens doesn’t fit into the shift.

No shift has time to spare. IRIS watches all forty at once and brings only what needs to be seen, with its camera and its time. What happens next is that person’s call.

Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.

A person answers, the same working day.
