What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

When the line stops, the plant system says it has stopped. It doesn’t say where, or what happened in the thirty seconds before, or how much product went to reject in the meantime. At the end of the shift, the reject figure is whatever somebody remembers. With the camera, the line manager has the exact point of the jam, the minute it started, the video from before and the number of vials in the tray. An argument becomes a figure with a time on it.

What people usually ask

Does the line system not already report that it has stopped?

Yes, and it goes on doing so. What the system doesn’t say is where the jam is, what happened in the thirty seconds before, and how much product is in the reject tray. IRIS adds the image and the exact minute. It works alongside the plant system, not instead of it.

Does IRIS count the rejected vials?

It counts the ones it can see: those in the tray and those tipped over on the bend. It’s a figure taken from the image, with a time and a frame, useful to know the order of magnitude and to cross-check. The official batch figure comes from plant reconciliation. The only thing approved by the Centro Español de Metrología, Spain’s national metrology institute, is people counting. That approval is Spanish and it isn’t equivalent to any U.S. certification: we say so up front and not at the end.

Can IRIS stop the line?

No. IRIS doesn’t act: it reports. It sees that product has stopped moving, times it from the first second and sends the camera, the time and the video to whoever decides. Stopping, restarting or rejecting a batch is done by a person or by the plant system.
