What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

Hot work goes fine a thousand times and badly once. What separates the thousand from the one are the screen, the fire watch and the distance to product. The camera sees all three: it sees the sparks, counts the drums nearby and sees that nobody is watching. The alert goes out while the tool is still running, with video from the first spark.

What people usually ask

Does IRIS detect flammable gases?

No. A transparent gas doesn’t show up in an image: a dedicated sensor detects it. A camera sees sparks, smoke, flame, drums and cylinders. That’s a lot, but it isn’t a gas detector. Both are needed and they work side by side.

Can IRIS stop the job?

No. IRIS cuts no power and stops no machine. It warns while the job is happening and hands over the video with the time. Stop or carry on is decided by the permit holder, who knows the rest of the context.

Who decides what counts as a poorly protected job?

The plant does. IRIS doesn’t write the rules: the plant states the distance to respect, whether a screen is required and whether a fire watch is mandatory. IRIS looks at whether that holds inside the frame and warns when it doesn’t. Changing the rule means changing a sentence, not reprogramming anything.
