What changes

What changes for whoever answers for the plant

Six in the evening, shift ending, everyone in a hurry to close the stockpile. And the mechanism is always the same: from a high cab there’s a cone of ground right against the wheel that the loader driver can’t see, and the person crossing on foot is exactly there. The camera does see it. The alert reaches the supervisor and the control post while the person is still there, and the video is kept to review how it came to that: where he got in, why he was on foot and what was missing.

What people usually ask

Isn’t the machine’s own collision system enough?

It helps, but it warns inside the cab and only around that one machine. The camera sees the whole yard from above: who comes in on foot, where from, and which machines are moving at the same time. The alert also reaches the supervisor and the control room, and a video with the time is kept. They are two different things and they work well together.

Can it tell a person from a drum or a cone?

Yes. IRIS recognizes the shape of a person and the way they move, and doesn’t confuse them with a stationary object. What it does not do is know who they are: it does not recognize faces or match them against any list. It sees “somebody is on foot in the machine area,” and that’s enough to raise the alert in time.

Can walking be allowed at certain times?

Yes, and it’s the normal case. The quarry writes the rules: a maintenance window, a marked walkway, a machine stand-down. Inside that, IRIS stays quiet; outside it, it alerts. IRIS doesn’t decide what counts as a breach, it applies it. And every rule change is logged with the date it was made.
