The warehouse manager normally finds this in an audit, months later, when nobody remembers who left the pallet there. With the camera he sees it the same day, with a photo of the containment and the time. And he knows something no stock list tells him: how long they have been sitting together. A mix found at the annual inspection is a fine; one corrected in twenty minutes never becomes anything at all.

What people usually ask

Can IRIS tell one substance from another?

No. IRIS reads what’s printed on the outside: the pictogram, the color of the container and its format. That’s enough to know that one container marked with a flame and another marked as an oxidiser are sitting in the same containment, and that alone is worth an alert. Which substance is actually inside comes from the safety data sheet and the packing slip. The camera supplies the where, the when and the photo.

Who decides which combinations count as incompatible?

The plant. IRIS doesn’t write the segregation rules: it applies them. The warehouse manager defines which pictograms may not share a containment in his facility, and that list is what the camera watches. If the plant changes its mind, the rule changes, not the camera. And if an alert isn’t useful, it gets adjusted and the effect shows up from the next shift.

Is it any use in a warehouse that changes every day?

Yes, and that’s exactly where it earns its keep. The trouble with a busy store is that yesterday’s photo is worthless today: pallets come in, pallets go out, and nobody re-checks the whole containment. IRIS watches that containment all the time and reports the day a container that shouldn’t be there shows up, with the time it appeared and the video of the moment it was put down.
