The press guard, standing wide open
First thing on the press line. Both leaves of the guard on the big press are standing wide open, one on each side, leaving the die area exposed. Inside, on the orange bolster, sits a sheet-metal part already formed. The machine beacon is still lit and an operator watches the press from the aisle, a few feet away. IRIS sees both leaves out of their frame and sees the part inside the tool.

- guard leaf, open
- second leaf, also out of its frame
- press on the line
- sheet-metal part inside the tool
- operator watching from the aisle
- press beacon, lit
What this camera measures
An alert says something’s happening. The reading says how much.
- 2Guard leaves standing open
- 3 min 05 sTime the guard has been open
- 1People in frame
- 07:18Time of the opening
- 9Openings counted this shift
The figures on this screen are an example from the illustration, not any client’s measurement.
The rule
You decide once. IRIS applies it always.
If
a leaf of the guard is left open while the press is in an operating condition
Then
- alert the press shop supervisor with the camera and the time
- save the video from the moment the first leaf opened
- time the opening and add it to the shift count
The instruction that set it up«Tell me if the press guard is left open with a part inside the tool.»
What changes
What changes for whoever answers for the plant
At six thirty in the morning the big press stops because a part has jammed, and the guard opens and closes in twenty seconds. Nobody writes it down. The line manager only hears about it if somebody tells him. With the camera every opening is logged with time, video and duration, and at the end of the shift there’s a list. That’s where you see whether it’s one machine, one shift or one part that always jams. That’s what it takes to fix the cause instead of repeating the safety talk.
What people usually ask
Does IRIS stop the press when it sees the guard open?
No. What stops the press is its own safety system: the guard interlock and the machine’s light curtain. IRIS doesn’t replace them and doesn’t act on the machine. It alerts and leaves the video, which is exactly what’s missing when the interlock has been bypassed or a leaf has been left open with nobody writing it down.
Can it tell a maintenance opening from one that shouldn’t happen?
If the plant writes it down, yes. The rule can carry a time window, a machine mode or a prior notice. IRIS doesn’t decide what’s correct: the plant does. What the camera does is let no opening go by without a time and a picture, and keep the planned ones apart from the rest.
Is it usable as evidence in an investigation?
Yes, for what’s visible. The video shows the exact time, which leaves were open, for how long and whether anybody was standing in front of the machine. It identifies nobody, and it doesn’t say whether the interlock was bypassed: the internal state of the press comes from its own log. It’s the two together that close the report.
A different case every time
We won’t just tell you. We’ll show you.
It’s a summary of the real screen: it plays by itself, step by step, and shows only the path of one case. The actual tool has far more than fits in here.

Next step
The city
Who watches the cameras of a whole city?
23 cases: 18 raise an alert when something happens and 5 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
The highway
Who watches an entire highway?
10 cases: 8 raise an alert when something happens and 2 only measure. You see each image as it is, and then with what IRIS understands on top.
And the best part
A recollection can’t be checked.A number can, and it comes out the same every day.
The number doesn’t depend on who was on shift or how they remember it. It’s measured the same way every day, and that’s why people counting is approved by the Centro Español de Metrología. That approval is Spanish and it isn’t equivalent to any U.S. certification: we say so up front and not at the end.
Tell us your problem and we’ll say whether IRIS understands it, or not yet.
A person answers, the same working day.
